“The patient is a 74 year old female, who completed a Hearing Health Questionnaire per our routine. Interestingly, her only positive responses included that of some occasional dizziness, some difficulty understanding in groups or noisy situations, and inability to understand when someone talks form another room. Our experience here has taught us that if someone responds positively to two or more complaints, that it behooves us to order an Otogram, which is what we did. The Otogram returned revealing a mixed hearing loss, absent left-sided reflexes and abnormal right tympanomety, which precipitated a referral to an ENT specialist. The ENT specialist obtained an MRI and, low and behold, she was then diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma! The patient was offered alternatives, and has elected a conservative "observation" path, which will consist of several hearing evaluations and MRI's. I must emphasize that there is no way that I could have ever dreamed of reaching this diagnosis, had the patient not been given the routine hearing questionnaire, followed by the Otogram ”
